Well.. Yeah. All around, people are generally doing Valentine's Day manicures with hearts and whatnot. I did that last year when I first started the whole nail art hobby. This time I decided to take a little more traditionally untraditional route with gourmet strawberries. See, cause that's a real life om nom cliche` for Valentine's.. But not on nails.. Hearts are... ....... ANYWAYS. I almost did a design with another cat though and hearts, but I thought of this and it seemed cooler. I mean, I haven't ever sugar spun nails before so I was all over this idea.

Now, I would have to say that these would look ten times better on oval nails, but I couldn't dare to part with my squares. I love them too much.

My right index finger nail is broken. As well as my left ring finger's nail, but it's almost grown out. I'm so scared. D;
The only down part about having uploaded my Mardi Gras nails on time (and in chronological order) is uploading these late. :C

Anyways, I started off with a design I thought would be neat but as soon as I put the top coat on it started smudging and looking terrible.

Seeeeeee the top one... I thought it would be cool.. But it also came out a little more Christmas-y feeling than New Years. So I took that off aaaaaaaaaaaaand..........

Wallah!

I fell in love with this mani. And that cat stole my heart. Also, this Butter London is probably my favorite red nail polish in the world.

Butter London 'Pillar Box Red'

Butter London 'West End Wonderland'

Butter London 'The Full Monty'

....

So I didn't know what to do, but after much brainstorming, I decided on checkers and Zoya's gold flakie top coat. Personally, I don't like the gold flakies too much but I really enjoy how I used them. I also obsessed over the green sparkly polish I got from my Julep New Year's mystery box. It's gorgeousssssssss.

I'm more of a Reddit and Tumblr gal myself.

Anyways, I painted my little sister's nails using the dry marble technique. She wanted me to paint her nails but didn't know what she wanted exactly. Which led me to think about giving her the dry marble design. So I asked her what three colors she wanted and she chose red, blue, and purple. In the end, it turned out to look like a fruit roll-up.

A messy fruit roll-up.
And the weather down here is pretty confusing.Such as it being cold for two days, then warm the next two days, then cold again the next three days. It's just a vicious fluctuating weather cycle. Which is how I got my inspiration for my nails! In honor of the cold weather.

NOW, before anyone says, "But Texas is one of the warmest states-" and something along the lines of trying to live up North where the real cold is... No. Just no. I had a friend at work explain to me that the cold from up North is dry. In Texas, we've always got wind chills. 9 times out of 10 we do. There was a day or two with dry cold.. It was wonderful.

Anywayssssssssssssssssssssssss..

Side note: I don't like to use dotting tools when I'm using my Stripe Rites because the Stripe Rites dry so incredibly fast while the dots are still wet and smudge when I drag top coat over them. So I dotted with my Stripe Rite.

Alsoooooooooo.... My thumb nail is shorter than the others because it broke two weeks or so ago.. She's making a slow recovery. What's even sadder though is that my other thumb nail is also broken (on both sides even) and as well as my dominant hand's ring finger nail. Yup. Right under that little penguin is a split. ;(

For this mani I used:

China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat

China Glaze 'Kinetic Candy'

Zoya 'Maisie'

Stripe Rite: White, Black, Orange

Sad to say, I don't take pictures during my process often so no one will know my gradient process. Not that anyone currrrrs. But I do take pictures of my process and graduating steps on Instagram.

My mom was whining about how I hadn't painted her nails yet. Mainly because our schedules are opposite and I work when she's at home and vice versa for her. One magical night happened, where I wasn't working and wasn't with my boyfriend, and didn't need to paint my own nails. So I had time to paint hers.

It took about four hours... Mainly because I took a loooooooooooooooooooooooong break because I got sick in my stomach after laying down the base color on all her nails. It was so agonizingly painful. The noises rumbling from my stomach could be heard from afar. They even startled her because they were so loud. I guess it's really gross to get sick in the stomach while painting someone's nails.. If it makes anyone feel better I washed my hands twice.... ( ._.)"""

After that was all said and done, I drew on her snowflakes (which took a while because she wouldn't stop being itchy and moving) and added the jewels.. And walaaah! :D

Happy Belated New Years. So I'm pretty lazy... I never uploaded these on time. Typical me.

Anyways, I did these fun guys for New Years. Some pretty fireworks and 2013 written across the nails. On my right hand, the 2013 went from my pinky to my index finger. Obviously! Or it would have been some horrible 3102 backwards. eglooG was no help in my copy pasta. herp.
Oh yeah!!! My thumb nail broke that night, so I hid her with my head
down low. Heart broken. Literally, I thought I felt my heart shatter the
moment the nail broke off. It had already been broken for some time.. I
was just hoping it would last until the tear grew out. All the while,
my right hand's thumb is suffering the same fate (but broken in two
places on both sides, one higher than the other). As of today, (January
7th) the higher up tear was near growing out pretty close to the top.
When I was painting my nails, I reached down to grab another make-up
wedge piece and the tear snagged onto something and ripped off. So I had
to file it shorter. But it isn't as short as my left hand's thumb. Oh
well. ;c
Megan Yale / Polishophreniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03569131562810029753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1962825499479228363.post-7491032566813892462012-12-24T16:40:00.000-08:002012-12-24T16:40:57.708-08:00I decked the FREAKING halls.

So everyone is doing Christmas lights on their nails so it only makes sense that I decorate my nails with Christmas lights as well. But I wanted to use thread for the best/precise Christmas lighting string. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh lawdy lawdy lawdy I completely underestimated it. I thought it would be easy.. But nooooooooooo no no no it was not. Well, it wasn't too difficult. And when I painted my dominant hand, I was able to get a close enough comparison that I'm very proud of.

To start off, I used OPI's 'Don't Pretzel My Buttons' as a base for the glitter because:

Glitter sucks to take off by itself.

I was afraid the glitter wouldn't be strong enough to cover the nail by itself.

Oh! Also, both of my thumbs are broken and I'm in a terrible state of denial. I refuse to accept the fact that my nails are broken.

And his twin brother..I forgot to upload this when I had done them about two weeks ago.. My dad keeps playing WarZ on the MAC where I upload all my stuff. Impatiently now, I'm just on the other laptop.

Anyways, I did these for my friend Victor's little sister, who was 7 years old. Oh my goodness, her nails were sooooo tiny. But I did it! I made it possible. Even though after a while she began to get restless.. She wanted to keep petting my kitty cat who sheds sweaters. And she kept pinching her nails.. Like.. Pressing them on her thumbs so the tips would mess up and I'd have to go fix them up again........

dfghjk

Okay.

Also, her thumbs have Rudolph(s) on them.

The title speaks for itself. This manicure is made out of holiday spirit and candy canes. It was inspired by a design I saw on Tumblr. Actually, the original design was Christmas glitter and a snowman accent nail. I just decided to give it my own minty flare.

And as a side note, for the few people keeping track of me, my dad just said that I could go and get my license to be a nail technician and skip a semester of college. I'm very excited.
Oh yeah.
I don't want to go to college, but I am because I'm being forced.
That's why I'm so excited because I actually get to do something that helps me pursue a dream. <3

But before I give anyone a heart attack, yes, I'll go back. And perhaps I should change gears and aim towards a business major. But right now I really would like to get my license so I can work at a nail salon and actually get my artistic ability known and out in the world.

It's also really cute and irresistible. So, I did it for myself! I absolutely adoreeeeeeeeee fair isle designs and those ugly Christmas sweaters. @__@ <3

I added the glittery accents though. I thought it would make the design it a little more mysteriously exciting.
Back then, I was limited to the basket of nail polish in my mom's bathroom which consisted of mainly pinks. There were a few scattered other colors.. But I had to actually mix polishes together to get a color I wanted. Then for the character outlines, I used a marker. One of my line art markers. Needless to say that marker stopped working after that... And when I put down a top coat, it all resulted in a bubbly mess.

Did I forget to mention I didn't know how to clean up my mess?

2011

Then the other day, a friend of mine wanted me to paint her nails and she said she wanted Adventure Time nails. I assumed it was going to be a replica of what I had done before since she had liked the picture in my album on Facebook. She comes over and she asks if I can do Flame Princess instead of Princess Bubblegum.

Yes. Yes I can! It's a little messy still because I was rushing a bit since she had to be at work.. And I had already made her late. :1

After I indulged in all the Thanksgiving goodies at my grandma's house, I went home to nurture my food baby and take the turkeys off my nails because turkeys after Thanksgiving is just silly. SILLY! So, I decided to a reeeeally simple manicure for Black Friday. That, and my friend at work showed me these on his instagram and I've been thinking about them since. Since being only a couple days.

On a side note, I love matte top coats. But they crack and the tips wear so fast I don't wear it as often as I do my Seche`. ;(

Then again, I do feel pretty classy with these nails...

For this mani I used:

China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat

Sally Hansen Insta-dri 'Silver Sweep'

China Glaze 'Liquid Leather'

Butter London Matte Finish

I did these last night and they're kind of chipping and the tips are wearing pretty bad. Especially after me taking a shower and washing my hair furiously.

Also, both of my thumbs are split. My picture hand's thumb is worse than my dominant hand's thumb. And it's chipping and cracking where the splits are. So sad. ;(Megan Yale / Polishophreniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03569131562810029753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1962825499479228363.post-50183719219618309422012-11-23T21:16:00.000-08:002012-11-23T21:16:28.704-08:00Happy Thanksgiving! (Late to post)

Yeah, as the title says I was too late to upload these to my blog. I uploaded them everywhere else, but neglected to upload them here because I didn't feel like typing all the polishes I used. I was just being a lazy bum.

Anyways..

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope it was a good one! :D
That and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so I feel compelled to stick to neutrals and fall colors and themes.

I was also waiting for my feathers to arrive in the mail so I could do a mani with real feathers. I'll save that one for Turkey day. c:

*Also, a lot of editing went into my cuticles because:

I do a messy top coat job.

I didn't take a picture until the next day so the top coat dried all over my fingers and looked like nasty clumpy bleh.

How fun, right?

These took a while.. Also because I was watching TV and eating during the whole process. And as I write presently, I haven't painted my dominant hand's nails. There won't be enough time tonight if I want to shower. Especially since freshly painted nails before a shower is never a good idea. I'm already risking it with my left hand.
(Well, just the gradient part)I'm a bit lazy.. But I did show my gradient process. c:

On a side note, I won first place in 'It's So Easy''s Halloween themed polish contest. Thank you, gradient graveyard. You will always be remembered. <3
And thank you again, gradient graveyard, for the 70+ followers and 6000+ notes received on Tumblr.

I never thought people would enjoy gradient graveyard so much.

Step 1: Lay down your base coat.

Step 2: Using a make-up wedge, blotch your second polish color to your desired spot. I recommend closer to the top. And for the bottom half, I do a second coat to make it seem darker on its own.

Step 3: Sponge your base color over the second polish color for a better blending.

Step 4: Sponge your third polish color over the second polish color. Then if you want, sponge the second color back over the third color to yet again, blend it better. (I don't think I did because my second and third color are relatively similar)

Step 5: Sponge your fourth polish color.

Step 6: Yuck! That didn't look good, huh? Well, grab your second polish color and sponge over the fourth color. Then, sponge your first polish color over the second, third, and fourth ever so slightly.

Step 7: Yay, that looks nice. Now, FAIRY DUST!

Step 8: The rest of creating gradient graveyard is all thanks to these bad boys right here. And a steady hand. And my ever-growing ambidexterity.

Also, the removing of gradient graveyard. (I don't like cotton balls, so I avoid them as much as possible)

It completely blew my mind. Honestly, I think they're too simple. Like.. Nothing special to look at. Cause I like to do crazy stuff that's eye-catching. Not that this isn't eye-catching, but it's not as exciting as other things I've done.

And I know there were a few requests for a tutorial.. The best I can give now is like, my process.
1. Base coat of polish
2. Sponge 2nd color
3. Sponge base color over 2nd color (this is for better blending)
4. Sponge 3rd color
5. Sponge 2nd color over 3rd color (this is for better blending)
6. Sponge 4th color
7. Sponge 3rd color over 4th color (this is for better blending)
8. Cover with glitter polish -let dry a little-
9. Draw moon (I use stripe rites)
10. Draw grass
11. Draw cat
12. Draw grave
13. White details (RIP, cat whiskers)
14. Give cat flakies for eyes
15. Draw black around the flakies so they aren't so obnoxious and chunky like they're supposed to be
16. Seche` Vite top coat

And that's it. (<---Understatement) Each hand takes about two hours. c:

For the cat, I used flakie bits for the eyes because cat eyes change colors in the dark however your light/angle is. It's way cool in person. :3
This request was made some time ago.. But now it's mid October and there's no better time than now. :D

Now bear with me, I can't turn my thumb to where it perfectly lines up with its body.

This is the first time trying out my matte top coat besides on my nail wheels. I'm in loveeeeee with matte now. <3 <3 <3
I also love how it turned out over the skeleton bones. Originally, it was like a snow white. A few layers of matte top coat and it turned into the yellowed down white that only brought the bones to life even more.

I used for this mani:

China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat

China Glaze 'Liquid Leather'

Stripe Rite: White and Black

Butter London Matte Finish Top Coat

Also, the previous week I painted my sister's nails as little candy corns. This was right before bed on a week night, so I wasn't able to clean up too much or be as patient as I had wanted. I was also a little lazy to upload it.. But here they areeeeeee nowwwwww... c:

My dad clipped her nails. So.... Yeah...

It's getting closer and closer to Halloween!

Sorry, I've been a bit delayed with uploading. I've been really under the weather with a cold. It started off as laryngitis, which I get at least 3 - 4 times a year, with painful coughing, congestion, stuffy nose so I can't breathe, followed by losing my sense of taste for a few days, stuffy ears.. Uhhghh. Now I'm at the, 'Don't worry Megan, you're healing!' phase for sure. All that's left is manly coughs and stuffy nose and congestion for about a week longer. ;(

Anyways, I saw this design on google and decided to give it a go. The original picture had all nails being jack-o-lanterns. I thought it was a bit much, so I decided to toss in some accent nails to give it some pizazz.

Also, on the accent nails, I had put down the black glitter polish on ALL nails, so then I covered them with orange polish because I was too lazy to remove the black glitter....
Also before October..As much as I love my PCOS Awareness nails, I got tired of them fast and was dying to start my Halloween manicures. I tried to just get away with painting Jack and Sally on my nail wheel, but they turned out really well...... So I HAD to put them on my hands.

The Nightmare Before Christmas! Nails! :D
Here's my right hand, that I'm actually quite proud of. I did my right hand at school, and wasn't able to upload a picture until after work. So there is a bit of tip wear.
And then there's my kitty cat, Skye. She sniffed my hand after the picture and didn't quite like the smell. She got close, sniffed, and pulled back right away. :c

For anyone wondering, I take my pictures (now at least) sitting on the kitchen floor over a white binder. The best lighting in the house is in the kitchen, so it only makes sense because I'm tired of these yellowy ugh lights.

PCOS Awareness month! One day after doing more leaves on my nails, I realized that this was the last week of September. That means the last week of official PCOS awareness! People should always be aware.... But September is like, the official month.. So yeah. I took off my fall leaves and replaced them with PCOS awareness ribbons.

PCOS: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

I do have PCOS, which isn't all that bad as it sounds, but that doesn't mean it's all that good either. It's where the eggs don't fertilize properly and my estrogen levels
aren't correct, so the egg attaches itself to the ovaries and is
considered a cyst. The gynocologist said I have about 12 or less on each
ovary. Basically, I have heavier, crampier periods. I have less chance
of becoming pregnant, which is nice now since I'm 19 but will be quite
depressing when I'm ready to have kids. I grow darker, coarser hair in
unwanted areas, such as my belly. The hair grows as if it were a guy's
stomach, but it's still peachy and short (not like a manly carpet, but it is noticeable). The hair grows in the opposite direction
it should be (female version of a snail trail), and I do have a few hairs that are as dark as the hair on
my head. I believe I grow more hairs in my pubic region as well. That's
all my symptoms, as far as I'm aware. And birth control is supposed to
level my hormones out. When I want to have kids, I stop the birth
control (obviously) and take fertility pills.

For now.. I shave my belly and tweeze the dark hairs out. And one day, laser hair removal is going to happen. c:

It was a picture of a nail store in China. It made me all giddy, and posted that she should send out some Chinese care packages. However, when I say this stuff, I don't expect it to happen. But it did! It did happen, and I did receive my care package!

Success! It didn't arrive as goop! Thank you so much, Chaos! I might not get started right away cause I'm ADD with nail art projects, but I will definitely be using all these foreign goodies in the near and far future! :D

There were also some painting brushes that I forgot to photograph!
